Capt. Luther H. Blount (1916-2006), ACCL founder

We offer the guests the opportunity to go where the big ships cannot. Our niche is exploring some of America's most historic waterways in a style reminicent of private yacht vacations of a bygone era.

With many itineraries to choose from each year, passengers keep coming back to repeat the ACCL experience. Our ships are purposefully simple, comfortable with an informal atmosphere evident in our BYOB policy and relaxed dress code. Our itineraries are specially tailored to the active, inquisitive and eco-conscious audience. We choose our crew, chefs, lecturers and land tours carefully to provide a top-notch vacation. Often we offer local guides and entertainment to ensure an authentic experience of the regions we befriend.

Family operated for over 40 years American Canadian Caribbean Line of Warren, Rhode Island is the brainchild of shipbuilder, Capt. Luther H. Blount (1916-2006). In the 1950's, in order to experience a small ship cruise on the historic Northeastern waterways, you had to own your own yacht or have a friend who did. Luther Blount owned such a yacht and invited many friends to join him and his young family. It evolved into a business as guests started to multiply, requesting to contribute to the cost and to bring friends of their own. What started first as family swordfishing vacations to New England and the Canadian Maritimes has developed into one of the most renowned niche cruise companies that has defined the industry.

With Blount’s shipbuilding background and love of boating, he combined the knowledge of a seasoned yachtsman with the engineering skills of a naval architect to construct a vessel that would be able to navigate shallow coastal waters and under the low bridges of the Erie Canal. He developed a retractable pilot house that lowers into the second deck to allow passage under these low bridges or low-hanging brush found along tropical rivers. The shallow draft feature allows for cruising in shallow depths and landing on sandy beaches. The Blount bow ramp allows ship to shore access without a dock or tendering.

"My family and I are honored to continue my father's vision."

Nancy Blount, ACCL President
